Bette Midler presumably regrets dropping out because she saw how successful the movie was. However, if the script was changed to be more "Whoopi" than "Bette," then Bette would have made a very different movie which may not have been as successful.

The reason I loved the music was it had two levels. It started out with a traditional feel and was sung all the way through then the drumbeat dropped and it was sung again revved up and joyous. The contrast served all generations.

My mom LOVED both movies! We watched them every day with her. It made her day because she was able to laugh & enjoyed the music when she was totally bedridden while suffering from Alzheimer's & dementia.

The habits were Franciscan. The convent was dedicated to Saint Francis. The mention of Carmelite nun was a joke about Whoopi being black.
