I don't know how many expert users I've mentioned this one to and they didn't catch it? Any knob or fader in Live once selected (with the brackets around it etc.), is now controllable by the up/down arrows on your keyboard.

Use SHIFT+SPACE BAR to continue playback exactly where you stopped it. Took me 15 years to learn this one!!!<br>Also OPTION+SPACE BAR plays only the highlighted section of playback. Wanna hear exactly 1 quarter note of playback? Try this one.

The session templates are super useful, but you do have to use caution when auto-loading VST plugins. Plugins that need to update all the time can get bugged out and not work properly or even cause Live to crash. So, be selective about which plugins you save in your session template.

also, subtract the latency difference until it’s zero. i always do that. no matter what the buffer size is. that helps a lot.

For splitting a track into high, mid and low using a rack I prefer to use the multiband compressor. It sounds cleaner to me plus you can adjust the size or each band. Map the macro knobs to each band for advance level 😊

Some very useful tips in this Video. Not everything works for every workflow, but I saved it for later reference. My personal addition to the list would be to "analogize" Abletons stock software synths. As good sounding as they are, I always feel like something is missing. Just add a Max device doing some analog emulation (like console or tape) to spice it up a little. I put one on every track and it helps making everything sound much more natural. There are some super nice tools for it out there and they don't cost the world. Some are even free to have. It's subtle, but it makes a differenece. Presets can be made for those too 😉 . They also could be popped in later in the production process, to save your laptop some CPU and battery. If you're not on Live Suite just use a VST/AU for it.

I use an "idea" group template that has drums, bass, harmony, melody channels, and then once I have an idea with a general structure, I bring in a mix bus group template to mix it. This has drums broken out into about 5-8 channels, multiple bass channels, multiple harmony and melody channels. Breaking up the creative idea sessions and mixing helped take the stress of "this idea has to sound great now". It also is just less technical stuff to work with and keep track of so creativity flows better.
