That bell curve also applies really well to mental health.

Agreed.  Weightlifting and powerlifting events tend to be pretty laid back.  The top competitors can be pretty competitive, but beyond that, they need the numbers to keep local and regional meets viable.  Plus it takes a few meets to get used to performing in public and the nuts and bolts of competition.

I am still early on and not the most serious powerlifter. I competed a year ago at a local meet and it was super positive and everyone I met there was top notch.<br>I roped my kids into competing this year at the same venue and organizers and it was great.

Thanks, as always, for the solid and sound advice. As someone who is self-taught and spent a few of my beginner years majoring in the minors, thinking I was &quot;intermediate&quot; way before I earned it, I wish I would have had this kind of advice early on instead of focusing on hunting down the one magic cue or position tweak that would unlock my goals overnight. Hard work, determination, and commitment over time are the only things that hold the key!

I’m curious on what the experience looks and feels like for 40 year olds. I love powerlifting and been doing it for the last six years. I have some curiosity for men my age and would like to compete for the fun of it.

RECOVERY!! &nbsp;#1 priority for Beginner through Advanced, is learning your Recovery ability and MRV. Recovery precedes super Compensation and Super Compensation precedes Progression. Anything that hinders Recovery in ANY way, hinders Progression in EVERY way... -You can quote me on that! Lol!!!
