I saw a video of police opening someone’s window wanting their tv tax. That’s wild. Not only the US doesn’t have TV tax, but it wouldn’t be wise or healthy to climb in an American window.

Britain used to be a nation of shopkeepers. What I have seen is small shops are now all chain stores but not clearly identified as chain stores. English merchandise used to be high quality and common 50 years ago in the states. I cannot remember the last time I saw a product labeled made in UK or England. The VAT tax killed everything in my opinion.
