  I have only been detecting for less than three years but love it.The best advice that I got when starting out was...make  slow long swings...overlap your swings....keep the coil very close to the beach and dig everything until you are more comfortable with the hobby and your machine.Keep digging.

  If I could make a comment, I’m sitting here watching your video with your new mind lab and I noticed that you’re keeping the coil pretty high off the surface. I have noticed if you flatten the coil out and run it an inch or less above the ground, you will find more targets.

  Every inch the coil is off the ground, is an inch of depth you are missing. The coil has a skid plate on it for a reason. Skim the coil over the ground. You should be making marks in the sand with the coil. Always keep the entire coil parallel to the ground the entire swing side by side. I own 10 detectors, and have been detecting for over 40 years.

  And when you locate a target, use your pinpoint option will help you find the target a lot easier

  It’s your call, But, you see all the stuff we dig up, water shoes or dive boots will save you a trip to the ER, or worse. Up north we dig too many hypodermic needles 😊

  Welcome to the hobby… the Elite is an excellent machine with pinpointing ability you should learn for less digging. You should also consider water shoes ($12 - $15) to prevent glass, can slaw or fishing gear from ending your day in the ER. Stay diligent… you gotta dig the trash to find the gold and diamonds.   Just the determination you showed to get that target out of the surf, even if it was just a beer can, got me to subscribe. I’m pretty new too. About a year. Have some experience with the elite. Nice machine.

  Just subscribed, I’m up here in NJ with the same machine. I leave it in beach 2 for all beach detecting with auto ground balance on, anyway hello keep digging and good luck 👍

  I got an Xterra elite and I love it. Still a rookie. I think I’ll always be a rookie and always learn new things. I had an big five brand for years and then I upgraded as well. Good luck out there. Be safe.

  coil is way too high of the ground and u have to swing it in wide moves and use the machine with fill length, greatz from a noob from north germany
