Many of the species shown such as the Asian arowana, are illegal to import or sell in the United States and many other parts of the world. This is due to the endangered species act restricting the commerce of such imperiled species. However, many of these do not apply in places in Asia and China is certainly no exception.

I also want to be clear that although this was an extremely impressive market, not all of the species were kept in the best conditions. Many of these stores are old and my job as someone visiting is to simply showcase these locations around the world, many of which you may not have seen before. Hoping to highlight and shed some light on this ever so expansive aquarium hobby

I know it's the norm in fish stores but damn the big fish really all lacked space... And I though it wasn't so bad for the betas until I saw the tiny cups. Even most of the aquariums on display were overstocked, hope it's not to show what people can do, because poor fish.
They had some cool species though for sure.

I kept a snakehead for a very long time before they made them illegal in the US. I miss that fish so much! Hands down my favorite fish I've ever kept! Such personality!

Great video, randomly just came across this video. I go to this market all the time and have never even seen another foreigner there so it's pretty cool to see it featured in this video. The first shop I actually bought some fish from just a few days ago. This is a smaller market compared to the ones I used to go to when I lived in Shanghai, hopefully you got a chance to go to some of those during your trip. But the best market in China is in Guangzhou, they have a massive one that is absolutely insane.
