I cheekily wrote to Tony c/o Factory Records in ‘89 aged 14 to ask if I could do my work experience with him. He immediately replied - yes! Cruising around town in Tony’s Jag in ‘89 was a memory I will always cherish, I felt like the coolest kid in the world!

Beyond that, he was an absolute gent, fixed me up with work at a newspaper he was invested in at the time and graciously kept in touch after my time ended. A wonderful Mancunian.

I was somehow cosmically entangled with Factory and after Tony’s passing lived at Factory HQ with the also legendary Alan Erasmus for many years.

Manchester's Night and Day Cafe, a long-standing live music venue, has just been served a Noise Abatement Order by the council on behalf of these NIMBY arsewipes who recently decided to move in next door. Wilson did this report twenty-one years ago. The guy knew Manchester inside-out. Way ahead of his time.

I was a guest on one of Tony's shows. We were chatting beforehand and he asked me where I lived. At the time I lived in Wilmslow. He was delightfully withering, wondering what a lad in his 20s was doing stuck out there, and urged me to get into the city centre and enjoy it. I did. He was ace.

Wow, it is like Tony knew the future. We have this problem everywhere now, idiots moving into city centre newly converted places complaining about music venues.
