0:45 Happy birthday, Moon-hee (the prison guard who made the call <Soulmate>).
1:52 I'm here, hehe~
IU actually revealed that this song was written for her muse, Yoo In-na. The two met on the variety show <Heroes> and became close friends while filming together, always for one night and two days at a time. Ten years ago, IU wrote the lyrics for the song "You" while thinking of her close friend Yoo In-na. At the time, she had to stay for a week deep in the mountains of the countryside while filming the drama <Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo>, and she said she wrote the lyrics out of missing Yoo In-na. Based on those lyrics written ten years ago, she released the self-composed song "You" five years later, and now, another five years after that, she has given her close friend Yoo In-na a brand-new song once again. The song "Drama" was also written after IU heard Yoo In-na's outlandish stories, so give "Drama" a listen too. As for "You," which I mentioned earlier, it's a song with hidden wordplay in it.

Oh, if you've watched <When Life Gives You Tangerines>, you may have noticed that Na Moon-hee, who played the role of Ae-sun's paternal grandmother, appears in this music video as the prison guard whose birthday is being celebrated, alongside Kim Young-ok — known for her striking white hair — who plays the one who threw a stone at the police station. By the way, the reason Kim Young-ok's inmate number is 2288 is that Yoo In-na loves the number 2 and IU loves the number 8, so each of them decided their own personal anniversary as they pleased — February 22 as "Inna Day" and August 8 as "Jini Day." That they'd go so far as to immortalize this in the music video shows just what kind of soulmates they are. Pretty amazing, right? Anyway, it's a scene where the two legendary actresses appear together, and the two actually debuted together in 1961 as MBC's first-generation voice actors, starting out in radio acting before transitioning to screen acting, and have maintained a close friendship for over 60 years since.

Also in the MV, actress Esom, who headbutts actress Kim Young-ok wearing inmate number 2288, shows thoughtful attention to detail by having her inmate number set to 0130, her actual birthday. While such meticulous details can be found throughout the entire set, they are particularly meaningful and important details for Uaena.

The two appearing in police uniforms inside the police station, amid the broken glass, are IU and actress Shim Dal-gi. They previously acted together as best friends in Love Burn, the third segment of the omnibus film Persona, and director Jeon Go-woon, who directed Love Burn, took the helm for this music video as well.

Watching the two of them together somehow conjures up a far-off future where IU and Yoo In-na have grown old side by side — Kim Young-ok being four years older than Na Moon-hee echoes the same kind of gap as IU being eleven years younger than Yoo In-na. In the scene where her line syncs with the song's lyrics, the lyric "You can be weird with me your whole life" seems to be what IU wanted to say to Yoo In-na.

It's a lovely thing to have even one such soulmate somewhere in life, and even though you're simply watching two legendary actresses being adorable, there's something about reading between the lines of the overall direction that strangely brings tears to your eyes in this music video.

I wondered if Yoo In-na would appear based on the concept, and when she didn't at first, I personally thought it would be fine even if she didn't, but she made a wonderful appearance. Also, I love both of their bright smiles so much.
Oh! And watching the behind-the-scenes Short, Yoo In-na plays the role of treating IU, and IU was explaining to her that the concept is that she gets treated by sticking something onto her ear.
