I love how no one seems to process the best joke in the entire video.

"If I brought all of my friends, we'd both be shot."

I remember seeing the images of the briefing when I was in the Navy. I just had to sigh knowing that the one giving the briefing (most likely an officer) had been told it was a big deal while all the people watching (mostly enlisted) had to hold in laughter because they knew it was something that wouldn't happen and that their officer was doing a Naruto run.

It is absolutely amazing that this event had less planning time than Fyre Festival, and still managed to NOT be a disaster.

The Area 51 Raid is special in that it is both 100% a meme and 100% real at the same time. It absolutely only became as big as it did for the meme factor. But people also absolutely intended on going and infiltrating the base.

Oh yeah, this was a whole thing. That government agent who came up with that other convention to cause further confusion definitely got a raise.

It’s also interesting to note that The Varus (TM) appeared about 2-3 months after this, and within 6 months or so it was lockdown time… so this was quite literally one of the last major events of the pre-Varus world. 😮

I like to imagine there were people in the military in their 20s saying “guys… it’s a meme” and getting sent off for court martialing
