One important thing is overlooked - Aldi is a lot less demanding on your psyche, no music no confusion no flashiness

Spent 20 years supplying supermarkets in the UK with own label and brand. Aldi ( and Lidl ) were by the far the best to deal with. All the others would mess you around with listing fees, promotion fees, overriders, group marketing fees and whatever else was flavour of the day. With Aldi, if you delivered the product they wanted at the price they wanted, that was it. Glad to see them succeeding on both sides of the pond...

I was an Area Manager for Aldi in the early 90s. They had long term plans, not short term. They were very German in everything they did, simple, clean, quality, minimalist and very, very effective. We had only 600 products compared to 10,000s in the other supermarkets, but they were good value products. We had half the staff but paid them way more, so we had the pick of employees. There were simple systems for everything, minimal paperwork, and the managers were given full authority over their departments, leading to continuous improvements. It was brilliant, I don't know how different it is today but I'm really happy to see them succeed around the world.

The simple fact that there is no background elevator music in the store is a huge plus for me.

Here in Germany the classic grocery run is "Go to aldi first, get everything off your list that you can find there, then get the rest in one of the fancier stores". Makes a huge difference at the end of the month.

I like how they allow the cashiers to sit in a chair. No one cares if they sit and if they makes them less tired, I can get down with that.

They didn’t sell to Private Equity firm so no heavy debt. So no failure

When I don’t want a headache thinking about overwhelming marketing and choice, or price, I go to Aldi.

The quarter for the shopping carts isn't gamification. It's just there so you'll return the cart rather than leaving it on the parking lot.

I wouldn't be able to eat as well if not for Aldi's prices, it's not often that you can point to a company and say "they improved my quality of life".
