Yeah crossbreeding between different dragon sub-species creates soem true, rare oddballs. You would think black + white would create grey dragons? NOPE! The fang or grey dragons are actually its own sub-species. Naturally created or not, from the abyss rumored or not. Tiamat morphed and improved the Fang to get an elemental breath weapon and made the new Greys hunt the fangs to extinction. I HATE that they had to force an elemental link upon this new dragon. Its life drain and weakening bite and true lethality and sturdiness in melee was unique. They could just have improve the bite itself with acid coating. Nothing more. I do homebrew it that way.

Also. Taking yellow coastal ( winged ) salt dragons into account, if they bred with blue dragons. Then.. that would make the green dragons a crossbrew? or if yellow + red = orange crossbrew? or blue + red = purple crossbreed? Nope! They are ALL distinct lineages. It just happens by happy little coincidences that their scale colors in pigment color teachings create these and those colors. This is safely the most logical and fitting lore-canon which lines up with the dragons most known and even less known. A purple dragon crossbreed wouldnt be anything like a true purple dragon purebreed. The crossbreed might not even be purple scaled which is mix of blue and red, it might have blue scales but ordinary fire breath. While a pure true purple dragon have either a plasma breath if using Richard Alan lloyds version or a psychic, disoriating breath if the 3e/ 4e purple dragon variant. Side-tangent, the Deep dragon are most logically likely a sub-species of the purple dragon itself. It is listed as a sort of purple dragon in newest source books. A good black dragon would be great story fodder.

A pathetic black dragon nearly losing its life over and over discovering the power of friendship and then eventually becoming part of the forces of good through sheer philosophy like that moment when Lex Luther gets Superman's powers and goes "we are all we have" and said black dragon reasons "there will be more suffering if there are more people, I reap everything in the end and suffering is part of life." Now it just helps all sapients, like a sheperd. And becomes an unwitting christ figure for all sapient life

An enlightened buddha like black dragon spurring on prosperity of every sentient race so it may reap ever greater rewards in a symbiotic relationship would be a great story to read.

What would a hybrid between a black and green dragon be like?

Black Dragon: yes come deeper into my swamp little bugs. Come now don't be shy, don't you hear those screams for help. Go on trek into my palace of pestilence and don't forget to take whatever you want, there's plenty for all. Oh...I forgot to mention they can all be traced by myself for I know every coin. I promise I'll close my eyes and count to ten for the hunt will be more interesting...for me! Now little bugs run if you can but I promise you will scream!

A Black Dragon will absolutely have barrels and. Chests full of fermenting fish close at hand, often with ghouls tucked inside them to act as trap/ alarms
