It was playing DVDs that really sold it I think. That's the reason why I bought A PS2 in 2001, games was only a secondary consideration for me

It was the cheapest DVD player you could get at the time and it was a spectacular console. It was the only DVD player most of my friends and I had for years. No other console in history was a "double threat" like PS2.

I was 15 and spent the summer of 2000 babysitting my 7 year old brother with the promise of receiving a PS2 on release. My mother delivered and I soon got a job at jack in the box in order to buy myself games. It was well worth the effort, that console was and is amazing.

Well that was a cozy trip down memory lane.
I remember being a kid in the summer holidays. Mum bought us the PS2 with GTA3 and Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. I would watch my brother play GTA3. I would help him get the racing missions done. I remember watching the traffic actually stopping at red lights and thinking it was the most awesome tech in the world.
Then I got to play Gran Turismo 3. I spent a lot of time on that game. I got to a point in the GT mode where I could finally afford to buy a proper racing car. It was the Pennzoil Nismo Skyline GTR R34. I went through actual 24hr races in those 6 weeks long summer holidays. I loved that game so much. I also remember playing Gran Turismo 4 on my PS2. Primal. Okami. Tomb Raider AOD, Legend and Anniversary.
Me and my brother spending hours trying to complete Time splitters on the hardest difficulty and then diving in for more on the custom arena mode where we would team up to go against as many cultists and other enemies as possible.
Gosh, those were some good times 🤩

I remember waiting at a mall for the midnight launch. It was the first console I bought with my own money and I remember reserving it and a couple games as soon as I could. Seeing Madden on it for the first time blew my mind.
