Used one for 18 years in the British Army. A real gun that fired a real round.

Remember these as a kid, shooting them on a range in Australian Army Cadets. Good times. Nice rifle, pretty heavy but has that feel of a real rifle, blued steel and wood smelling of oil and cleaning fluid…

Just a comment from an ex-Inf - Aussie Army - where I had an SLR as my service rifle before being replaced by the F88 - your firing position on the L2A1 is wrong. Like how the guy held the G1, it should be in an MG position with left hand at the butt holding the weapon in place. Holding the mag can cause misfeeds - have seen mags fully displaced that way - it is not recommended - overall the mags are the weakest part of the L1 or L2 (feed lips mainly). I was an MG gunner for a while and generally we hated the L2 as an inaccurate POS and my preference was the M60 at the time, despite the extra weight, as the belt feed, spare barrel and longer accurate range made a big difference (L2 accurate to 200m no real beaten zone, M60 500m+ bipod useful range via beaten zone)

The SLR is and was a quality rifle, easy to use and maintain. Also with the British ones you could also use the 7.62 bren gun magazines on the rifle, I carried an slr in lybya and Northern Ireland.

In the film The Wild Geese, you can see a Soldier wearing an old style SAS Cap, he also carries a modified SLR with a shortened Barrel and No Muzzle Break. His name is Ian Yule and he did actually serve with The 22nd SAS Regiment. The old Fazakerley factory was only a couple of miles from where I live in Liverpool. Very informative video.

My disappointment changing from this to the sa80, like a cannon vs an air rifle

I fitted a forward pistol grip to my SLR in 77 for service in Northern Ireland.
