I remember being scared of games like Left 4 Dead 2 when I was younger, so I can't judge anyone for being scared of anything

I would agree on Wind Waker being the scariest Zelda game, at least to me. I think it's because, since the game is normally so bright, breezy and relaxing, the scares and unsettling things hit harder.

As for what scared me most, it's probably the Big Octos and Seahats on the Great Sea... They're uncomfortably big and either move fast or come out of nowhere. Especially during the Cursed Sea section of the story

Puppet Ganon: Shows you his dancing moves

You: Le Panik

But yeah I can completely understand how he can be unnerving. The intro to the fight having Ganondorf make bone breaking sounds and growing massive, followed by being a bit disarmed by Puppet Ganon’s appearance, but then he starts dancing erratically and taunts you, he’s massive, he has 3 phases, etc. completely understandable.

Thinking that something that is actively being fought by Falco is a legitimately disturbing character is really silly as a terminally online person iykyk

This is more from a story perspective, but I gotta shout out Orson from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. A once loyal knight of Renais, the death of his wife led him to make a faustian deal with Prince Lyon and Riev to bring her back.

And, uh...she was certainly brought back, all right.

Now holing up in the Renais Castle throne room, he spends his days with his now "reborn" wife, his mind too far gone from grief to realize she's nothing but a rotting, animate corpse, too maddened to reason with, and now must be killed, if only to finally end both his and his wife's suffering.

A fun discussion, and I can really respect the frankness of it, I completely agree though there aren't as many things which properly scare me in videogames anymore, even when playing horror titles, but there's sure as hell a lot which can get under my skin and even now give me sense of being freaked out. In that I will say the Big Octo was a big childhood fear of mine, which still now gives me a bit of pause. The sheer size of it, the way it moves and the way it locks you into a damage race with it are all points, but largely it's just the sudden shift of weather. Being a person who's spent a pretty solid amount of time on the ocean, now the ways in which the elements can suddenly just turn on you is something which does get under my skin, the nature of being in a state of calm one second and having hands on deck the next, now gives me a different kind of unease.
Still, great and interesting vid, it's always fun how we can reflect and analyse the things which can get under our skin in both ways we can understand like primordial fears, and aspects which we pick up, and how they continue to show up even in things which aren't traditionally frightening by any sense of the word. Keep up the good work, and have a lovely day :)

I still find the Mother Beast Lusamine fight from Pokemon Sun and Moon pretty creepy. A "union" of human and Pokemon hadn't really been seen in the series like that before, not helped by the Ultra Beasts being a lot more eldritch and weird than regular Pokemon. It's also when Lusamine goes fully mask off and reveals herself to be an absolute monster. I'm still surprised she doesn't attack you herself

The Winter Windster fight was really just a proto version of Kratos vs Baldur.

22:29 I can atest to this. I grew up with a GameCube and Wario World in general unnerved me in a lot of places. I could play a majority of it just fine but the Duel Dragon and the aforementioned DinoMighty actually did kind of scare me.

But that attack the Winter Windster did and the helplessness my brother showcased when it happened trying to get out of it scared me so bad I actually had to run out the room when he fought this thing. Winter Windster and Eely-Mouth from Mario Sunshine both are very prominent scary memories for me in my GCN experience

Even to this day, when I think of scary bosses from otherwise kid-friendly video games, I think of King Boom Boo from Sonic Adventure 2. He absolutely scared me as a kid. From the way he constantly screams, to his chomping attack he does when you get up close, I'm still a little unsettled by him even as an adult.
