Why would anyone still want a 30-06?

  There may be a better round, but one fact remains: if you can't do it with a 30-06, it's your fault, not the rifle's.

  I'm 67 and have owned several 30/06's and taken a lot of big game with them.  The deer, elk, antelope and bear that I have taken with them all have one thing in common - none of the animals I took with a 30/06 ever stood up and complained one way or another.

  I&apos;m a nobody Cherokee guy from the Appalachians and bought my first rifle when I was 10.<br>Pop was always on the road trying to make a buck and pay the bills, so my Cherokee grandfather taught me to shoot, and lots of other stuff. <br>I would spend most of my summers with him and my NDN grandma in their little place tucked right up at the top of a mountain. <br>After I got ok with my 22, he had me get out his 30-06 one day and I was thrilled just to touch it. <br>It was a WWII FN Herstal Mauser 98k chambered in 30-06. <br>He taught me how to shoot with that rifle and I inherited it. <br>I took it out of the black walnut hunting stock and replaced it with the Archangel composite stock with the adjustable comb and butt stock which I need because I&apos;ve got the longest arms of any 6&apos;3&quot; guy on the planet, or so my wife tells me. <br>We&apos;ve got a little 60-acre horse farm about 3.5 hours away from my rez at Qualla Boundary in North Carolina. <br>I&apos;ve had some health issues coming from the 15 years I spent in the military. It&apos;s a tradition in our family to serve, and I wasn&apos;t about to change it. <br>I&apos;ve got friends who own the local gun shop and they looked the rifle and did their little tricks and that old rifle shoots better than I remember. <br>There&apos;s a hint for young folks out there, make friends with your local gun shop and they&apos;ll be your best friends, and those fellas sure are mine. <br>Thanks again!

  Even in hard times, I was always able to find 30-06. &nbsp;30-06 can take every game animal on the North American continent.

  When I turned 16 my mom asked me what I wanted for Xmas and I told her a 30-06, she laughed and said what else I told her a car!😊 I got a 30-06!

  My grandpa was a super gun collector, reloader, and gunsmith. I asked him when i was 8yo what his favorite caliber was, he said 3006 because it can do anything and he went on to tell me why on the long trip we had ahead. Awesome information.

  What&apos;s nice about the 30-06 is that it is very versatile. &nbsp;It can be loaded to hunt everything from squirrels to Kodiak bears.

  Thank you for not cutting the 30/06 down . The history behind it is great. It&apos;s been reliable in war and putting food on the table for a long time. It&apos;s just as reliable today as it ever was. My dad was a gunsmith , I got home from work one Saturday night &nbsp;and said follow me. We went down to the gun room and he started handing me parts by the following Tuesday I had my model &apos;98 Mauser 30/06. I&apos;m still hunting with it today, that was 50 years ago this month. Thanks dad.😊
