The laws of physics state that your odds of making a spare are greatly increased by making contact with a pin.

Hey there, love the vids! Certified Brunswick A2 technician here-

In my experiences, pins bounce considerably more in A's versus A2's. The Pit cushion and curtain assembly are both mounted facing slightly downward in an A2 in order to pass some of the energy into the fiberglass pit boards, which also makes it a near guarantee that the pins also ricochet downward into the dampening carpet. Brunswick Model A pinsetters have a pit cushion (also known as a 'hockey stick") that's mounted vertically along with the pin curtain. It was designed this way on the Model A's due to the pit boards being made of wood, they couldn't handle the momentum transfer without being damaged, so it was intentionally designed more vertical to NOT absorb all of that energy.

If there is ever a pin bouncing on one side of the machine in the back corner, shoot at that side. Brent's strategy was spot on there
