Iran Fires New Anti-Ship Weapons at Trump's Nuclear Aircraft Carrier | Vantage on Firstpost

On the 5th and 6th of September, Iran launched a salvo of ballistic missiles targeting US warships in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC released videos showing launches of the Qasem Basir anti-ship ballistic missile. Iran claims it struck a US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier along with a destroyer. The US Central Command has dismissed the Iranian claims and announced that the incoming threats were successfully defeated. The Qasem Basir missile is named after former IRGC General Qasem Soleimani, who was the leader of the Quds Force. Soleimani was killed in 2020 after US President Donald Trump ordered a drone strike against the Iranian general. In May of 2025, Iran honoured Qasem Soleimani by naming the Qasem Basir anti-ship missile in his memory. That missile has now been used for the first time in this war.
