This video tells the remarkable story of Saint Peter, the fisherman who became one of Jesus' closest disciples and, according to Christian tradition, the first leader of the early Church. Originally known as Simon, Peter was called by Jesus to leave his life as a fisherman and become a "fisher of men." Throughout Jesus' ministry, Peter witnessed many of the most significant moments recorded in the Gospels, displaying both unwavering faith and very human moments of doubt and weakness. Following the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, Peter emerged as a leading figure among the apostles. According to the Acts of the Apostles, he preached throughout Judea and beyond, helping establish the earliest Christian communities during a time of persecution and uncertainty. Christian tradition holds that Peter eventually traveled to Rome, where he led the growing Church before being martyred during the reign of Nero. His legacy became foundational to the development of Christianity, and the bishops of Rome—the popes—have traditionally been regarded as his successors. Today, St. Peter's Basilica stands as a monument to his enduring influence. This gentle bedtime documentary explores Saint Peter as a story of faith, leadership, sacrifice, and the beginnings of one of the world's largest religious traditions—told in a calm and reflective way to help you rest. #HistoryForSleep #SaintPeter #EarlyChristianHistory 00:00 Simon the Fisherman 13:52 Called to Follow Jesus 27:16 Peter Becomes the Rock 46:49 The Last Evening and Three Denials 1:00:03 Death, Resurrection, and Forgiveness 1:07:04 Peter Leads the Early Church 1:20:56 The Council and Peter’s Final Years 1:28:00 Rome, Martyrdom, and Legacy Want more sleepy history?
