I would keep the book that features your favorite poems even the ones that no longer resonate because they’re a nice peak into your mind at the time and at your journey as a reader and poet.

Oh so well said. I feel the same way as I reflect as well. I definitely want to return to the morning page free writing style. I have plenty of notebooks and aside from the planners I have and different uses I have for each I greatly feel the need to allow my thoughts to just flow without making it pretty to look at. The urge to get back to basics.
Definitely resonated with your thought process and thank you for sharing. 😊

I have found myself to be an individual subject book keeper, for some reason it’s simpler for my brain. I also have an issue with big rings so I turned mine into a sticker book and I love it now!

You just gave me so much clarity when it comes to memory keeping. I also do project life but was feeling a "planner/Journal" style would be better because of the words. I enjoy the words from any point in time. But like you said its more of a mental and emotional reflection. Theres words I wouldn't want my family or anyone to see. But when it comes to my albums those are the highlights (some also low) that have full size photos and captions and words etc lol. Just thank you, i might sound like I'm rambling lol but you just sparked something with that. I'm also a Ali edwards fan lol.

I recommend getting a small book and keeping stamps in there from your japan trip! Most train stations have a station-unique one.

I'm definitely in the category of trying to keep as few separate journals as possible because I've noticed that if I compartmentalise too much it feels too scattered for me. That being said I still have a bunch of journals lol

At the moment I have:
* TN passport as my every day carry, has a calendar for events and appointments, a vertical weekly for focus tracking, and two inserts for notes one is for quick scratch notes the other one for lists I want to reference for a longer period of time, ideas, etc.

* A5 Notebook as my long form journal, this is a catchall for any type of journaling that I feel like doing.

* 5 year journal for a daily recap

* Hobonichi weeks as my life/goals planner, habit trackers, collections, and weekly recaps

* TN standard for my occasional journals, at the moment has 3 inserts. An abandoned commonplace😂, my gremlin journal for when I'm angry, and my private journal I write in that one about heavier stuff that I don't want to flip through often or I don't want others to see.

I'm keeping things quite similar for next year, the main change is that I'm combining what I do in my hobonichi weeks with my long form journal in a hobonichi cousin, I'll just ignore the dates in the daily pages. And that I'm switching the vertical passport insert for a vertical standard insert because I wanted a bit more space.

The thing I like about TNs is that you can compartmentalise things but not feel like you have ton of different notebooks lying around. You can have the separation but still now that you only need to grab that one thing.

I too, have a DND notebook, lol. I say it makes sense to have that separate and keep the other notes together. Usually, I just but a sticky tab on the pages that I want to come back to. I think being online made me think all the things should be separate, but I found a lot of peace in having the random everything book with just little sticky tabs.

I also use the weeks for a journal for going on 2 years now (plus partially since 2022 (tiger bow and tie weeks). Next year, I am changing things up a little and doing a daily B6 book for it, so we shall see how that goes. Likely it will be an amalgamation of goals, ideas, tasks, and journaling.

I have a 3 book system. A passport tn as my planner. Standard tn for my diary and another passport tn for my compendium/ note taking. I could not handle more than these three. But I’ve definitely found my groove with these books and use them all every day.

Wow, Megan, wonderful romp through your thought meanderings. I've been Jonesin' on the planners this year, cause at one point I was tempted by the Weeks calendar, with the week on the left and the blank (or gridded or dotted) page on the right. But it may be too small. ... Right now I use a 7-inch square book for my week at a glance notes about my day, copies of all of my art works, monthly calendar pages, all of which I create myself. I use the calendars I keep on my Mac. I also do regular (or intend to to regular) writing spreads on the new moon and the full moons and I write notes about the Art Every Day copies I put in there. What I used, which art journal it's in.

I print a second copy of the calendar for the month and put it in my Vault, which is a 7x9.5 project planning spiral notebook. My online chat friends named it The Vault when I was looking for a name for what it was: noting every day what I did (as to art), saw, heard or drew (Lynda Barry style). I haven't kept very well to the Lynda Barry notation, but I still use it every day for everything: dumping what's in my brain, what I hear that I might want to try, web sites someone suggests, projects I start (what size needles and how many stitches for that gray sweater?)

I've decided to stay with the regular blank 7-inch journal for my week at a glance and not try the Weeks. I'm definitely gonna keep the Vault. It's where I go to see what I've been thinking. I try to gather up the thoughts at least once a month and start a new To Do list under my next month's calendar.

Aside from these two journals, I also have the Art Every Day journal I draw or collage or paint in whenever I feel like it, and definitely on the eight Celtic holidays of the year. I have a Zentangle practice journal and several Zentangle art playbooks. I do Inktober Tangles every October, which is a Zentangle a day list.

One reason I wanted to communicate with you after watching your whole wonderful video is about the Morning Pages. I've done them before. They're not for re-reading, except every month or so. They're intended as a brain dump. I can see, however, if you do creative writing, you might recognize as you write it that a paragraph or several belongs in a book manuscript you're working on, and you need to find a marginal notation so that you can find those graphs if you need them sooner. I wanted to recommend the project planner spiral notebook I use for my Vault. It has a column on the left and numbered and lined area on the right of each page. It would be great for Morning Pages where you ignore most of it but you can add notice in the margins about the parts that need to go into your creative writing and see them quickly.

Have I exhausted myself? Lol. I turned 83 this summer, so I have few actual goals, other than to do what I want every day whether it leads anywhere or not. So my life is quite unlike yours, where you actually want to get something done!

-- Barbara, from Eureka, California. I do have a channel: @barbclark69 on YouTube, and you're welcome to go see what all I've gotten into over the years.
