I worked as the Los Angeles Mayor and City Council photographer for 30 years. I photographed almost every celebrity in Hollywood. When Liberace was given a scroll
by the City, it was the longest session I ever had. Just about every person who worked in City Hall wanted a photo with him. After the session was over, I went
into the mall across the street. When I walked into Bob's Big Boy, I saw someone in the back of the restaurant waving to me....it was Lee. He was the nicest,
most down-to-earth celebrity I ever met.....a wonderful guy.

I actually had to Privilege of providing security outside his hotel suite at Resorts hotel and casino in Atlantic City. When he came back to his sweet after his show with his entourage and Mgr. he said hello to me and offered me room service if I was hungry. I said thank you no but, I would like to see your piano ring and he showed me his rings they were unbelievable. He paid me good night and said if you change your mind just knock on the door and ask for my manager, and he will order you whatever you want from room service. R.I.P. Lee...

Saw his concert in April 1977 I was 14 at the time and what a show. Came in with his famous white coat and beaded suit. Spoke to the crowd and was funny aside from being a world class pianist. Glad I had the chance to see this iconic star. Ps in 1977 we were also making plans to see Elvis but the superstar passed away that august.

He had a lot of expensive possessions but they were nothing compared to the joy he gave through his endless talent

It's totally true about him being into "projects" and restoring things. My gr-grandpa & grandma retired to Palm Springs in the 1960's. Grandpa, who was a very talented carpenter and a master at restoring antiques, couldn't stay "retired", and soon started doing work for various celebrities and wealthy people in the Coachella Valley. Word spread about his skill, and he was contacted by Liberace to restore some antiques he had acquired. Grandpa ended up doing so much work for him, that Liberace had a little workshop built for him at his house in Palm Springs. Grandpa recalled one project that took him months: restoring an antique chess set...these were huge pieces, not your small game size that you'd think of. Anyway, Grandpa loved the work, and he always said how gracious and kind Liberace was to him...he'd even have his housekeeper/cook bring meals to my gramps when he was working in the shop...
