TONY HAWK'S UNDERGROUND 🛹 20 Ans Après, Toujours le Roi ?

We’re diving into the golden age of gaming with Tony Hawk's Underground (THUG) 🛹 on PlayStation 2 🎮! Released in 2003 📅, Tony Hawk's Underground* is one of the most memorable entries in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater* series. Developed by Neversoft and published by Activision, the game shook up the formula by introducing a genuine story-driven adventure 📖, the ability to get off the board and explore environments on foot 👟, and options to customize your skater and create your own tricks, skateparks, and objectives 🏗️. But how does Tony Hawk's Underground on PS2 hold up today, more than twenty years after its release ⏳? Does its renowned arcade-style gameplay still stand the test of time? Is its story—centered on a young amateur skater's rise to the professional ranks 🏆—still as memorable? And what about its production values, longevity, and iconic rock, punk, hip-hop, and metal soundtrack 🎸🎧? In this PS2 retro gaming review 🕹️, I revisit the elements that make THUG unique: Eric Sparrow, the stat progression system 📊, the Caveman, Free Skate mode, skatepark creation, unlockable classic levels 🔓, as well as the on-foot sections, vehicles 🚗, the camera, and the flaws that become apparent in hindsight. Blending skateboarding, combos, grinds, tricks 🔥, exploration, and skate culture, Tony Hawk's Underground aims to be much more than just a sports game. It offers an adventure that takes players from New Jersey to other major destinations ✈️, all while retaining the arcade-style formula that made the franchise a success. So, more than twenty years after its release, does Tony Hawk's Underground still deserve its crown 👑? Is it still a must-play skateboarding game on the PS2, or have some of its mechanics started to show their age 🤔?
