<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZmLnbgD8MM&t=4723">1:18:43</a> This brings to mind a dream I had about 10 years ago, where I was in a great hall filled with women who were celebrating something I knew nothing about. I found my mother in the crowd and next to her was my grandmother who had passed, which seemed odd yet I was just glad to see her. I said to her, "Wow, look at all these women. I don't know any of them except you two." I was about to ask my abuela (grandmother) if she recognized anyone when she looked at me askance and declared, "Of course you know all these women!" Just then I saw past her shoulder her mother (my great grandmother) whom I recognized from the photos I grew up with, and beside her was my grandfather's mother who passed when he was only 10 years old. Before I could speak, they all went quiet and turned to me. Every eye looking at me with love and kinship. I realized then that all these women where my ancestors and in unison without moving their lips they said to me, "You are the culmination of all of our hopes, dreams, fears, and wishes. You represent us all in the flesh."<br><br>At the time I was inactive, having lost my faith, and even considered myself an Atheist. Even so, I immediately went on Ancestry and did genealogical work. I only came back to church three years ago after two decades away, and while getting acquainted with all the new cool tools the church uses now, I came across Family Search. I migrated my Ancestry data to Family Search and in a matter of a few connections I was able to link my tree to other members' tree that led to finding family all the way back to the 1500s! Most of them hadn't even been baptized! So I got to work to get all their work done (both male and Female). <br><br>Recently, my mother had a similar lucid dream the night after her parent's work in the temple was done. Mind you I am the only member in my family. In my mother's dream, my grandfather appeared to her wearing a robe while holding a bunch of birthday cards. In life he had been a severe and austere individual, haunted by his painful past. However, in her dream he was excited and joyful. He told her that it was his birthday, even though his earthly birthday had past months before. He shared all the cards he got with her--without understand why it meant so much to him--and she was just elated he was happy. My grandmother appeared to her too but she was grieved, distraught at how ambivalent my mother was to her. My grandmother told her how heartbroken she was that they didn't get along. <br><br>I now understand that our relationships are what set us apart as a unique church. We know that our connections can persist in the hereafter. God bless my mother, but she is as stubborn and self centered as my grandfather was, so she just doesn't get it. She doesn't even want to be sealed to her parents if I do her Temple work by proxy. I had to interpret the dream for her and explain why Abuelo (my grandfather) was gleeful. "He is reborn through baptism," I told her. "He is free from the chains that bound him in torment." And I can't fully quantify here how profoundly moved I am to know that such a hardened man had embraced his spiritual heritage and is now on the path of righteousness. My poor mother may not understand it, but that dream is what motivates me to continue this work. I wont rest until it is all done.<br><br>I now see my Redeemer's gift with understanding and the power His priesthood is to bind all things on Earth and in Heaven.

I did learn so much that is meaningful…this episode helped me understand some things I’ve pondered . I don’t have any one in my family to discuss the gospel with and it’s hard some days . Episodes like these are so important to those who desire the fellowship of someone to just sit with and really discuss the depths of the gospel , the love and sacrifice of our Savior. My parents did the best they could with what knowledge they had … the most awesome gift they gave me was having the gospel in my life and the opportunity to accept that gift . Little did I know that it needed to be unwrapped a little at a time ( precept upon precept) for the rest of my life . I learn more and more each day … THIS is truly the gift that keeps on giving . Thank all of you for being that “ person” I can sit with and learn and be blessed . BTW…I’m 75 yo and still learning this beautiful gospel !

Todd has paid the deep, private price to share truths that only come with high price. May we all be familiar with that price and cherish the accompanying truths. Love ya brother.

I sat in that cell and nobody showed up and nobody visited me; only street people I know put money on my books and phone or wrote letters, then I had to walk 3 miles home after a year to beg someone to let me sleep on their floor, but the lord held my hand because every night in my pod I’d get on my knees and pray, one thing I had to realize is nobody is coming to save and the lord wanted me to know that he will always be their regardless of a cage or not; did Joseph or Paul lose their authority because their in a cell? no so why do we shun those in cages? Don’t baptize them or allow and etc unless their off probation or prison? Now I’m married and have a family and my wife’s getting baptized. I know my redeemer lives and breathes new life into me

I wish I had a hard copy of this discussion. I love the definition of the mysteries of God as has been defined in this discussion.

I may not completely understand the priesthood but man am I forever grateful for it in my life. To me it is a powerful thing. Just last week the power of the priesthood was made manifest as my father in law and neighbor blessed me to get well. I was so out of it from having a high fever and a bad reaction to medicine that I had no idea what was going on. My husband was gone to work and called my Relief Society Pres to come over and check on me. She couldn’t get me to calm down and said I was milling around and repeating the same things over and over again. As soon as I received that priesthood blessing, I was able to sit down, calm down, and go to sleep. I don’t even remember my father in law or neighbor being there or giving me that blessing. All I know is that it worked, that priesthood blessing began my healing. I’m so thankful for Heavenly Father allowing the worthy men in His church to hold and administer that power to the blessing of His children here on earth.

Thank you for sharing your insights and gospel knowledge. I once had a friend try to convince me that because my husband had pretty much turned his back on the gospel, and our children followed him, we could not be together in the eternities. It didn't make sense to me because we know progression doesn’t stop after we die. But I determined to do everything I can to convince my family, here or in the next life, to fully accept the Savior. You have given me hope that this is actually possible.

I want so much to be in a position to receive the Second Comforter. I pray with every fiber of my being that my family and I will receive the blessing from God. So many of us lack in understanding and think that by DOING the ordainaces we will receive. We are all living the lesser law and should strive for all God desires to give. Thank you Brother McLaughlin for your point about family and our willingness to reach out to our loved ones.

I'm so stunned by his description of the initiatory experience of the Marine Corps. It is beautiful. It made me cry.
