The existence of such a militarist regime is an affront to Judaism. It exports hatred by distorting the idea of what Judaism is, and it preforms incredible repression and violence against its own citizens via the military and police, as well as its pro-nationalist political system and arbitrary judicial process.

How glad would ES would be to find out social media breaking stranglehold of MSM these days, so much so that for first time Americans are more sympathetic to Palestine than to Israel

Whilst I agree that Orientalism is a powerful lens of which we can look at the situation in Palestine, it shouldn’t be understated how pervasive “Oriental” stereotypes once were in the West and their current power in contemporary culture.

For example, I remember the harsh depictions of ‘Sinbad the Sailor’, early Rupert books or even ‘Achmed the Dead Terrorist’. I had the privilege of visiting many places depicted in Western “Oriental” media as a child and thus could dispel these myths. But I sometimes wonder what my opinions would be if I didn’t visit those countries. What would my opinions be if I wasn’t exposed to such obvious misrepresentations as a child?

I think, if you have personal knowledge of “Oriental” countries, or the culture, it can blind you to how consistent and pervasive the misrepresentations have been.
