  I recall the very contentious pedestrianization taking place in the UK in the 80&apos;s, It&apos;s as controversial now as it was then. A larger issue, but one I have seen work is for fluid flow is the adjacent streets (given there are cross streets) to become one way. Both going in opposite directions resulting in wider streets, less congestion and improved traffic flow. However if businesses resent pedestrian malls, imagine trying to go with a 3 street transition!.
