  When I was a senior in high school in 2008, we were reading Frankenstein for English and taking weekly tests to make sure we were actually reading. The teacher told the class they wouldn't be able to pass by just watching a film adaptation because no film ever came close enough to the material. I happened to have the "Hallmark" version on dvd, so I asked her if we could watch it as a class at the end of the lesson plan. She said she'd have to watch it first, to make sure it would complement the lesson, though she had her doubts. In the end, she said it was by far the closest she'd ever seen, and we got to watch it as a class before we finished the book because she was too excited to wait for the end.

  The reason the creation of the creature isn't described in the book is actually kind of clever. The story is written by the captain in diary form and Frankenstein did not divulge the details to him and even states that he has lied about details, because he was terrified somebody might replicate his work. When Frankestein tells of the destruction of the second lab the location is literally redacted so that the reader may never find the burned cottage. It was a clever way for Shelly to tell a story without having detract into complicated details, or have to resort to magic.

  I feel like the rejection is not the most important aspect. It might be the most important aspect of the story, Dr. Frankenstein tells. But, the most important aspect is the ship, captain and the framing device. He doesn&apos;t just exist to rescue Frankenstein, so we can hear his story. He exists to show us that any task pursued with mad devotion can turn into disaster.
