I recently had an atheist mistake me for a Christian for correcting a Christian's blatant misquoting and cherry picking, only because I read the Bible. Of course I do, it's the playbook of the people who keep trying so hard to hurt me. Knowing it is self-defense.

I once had a bible of mine when I was 11 that I always took to church with me. One day I lost it and never saw it again. Mom accused me of having destroyed it, and refused to believe me when I said I just lost it, and lectured me about how I was going to burn in hell if I don't repent of this. I feel like that was one of the catalysts for my early deconversion at the young age of 14.

I went to a private Christian school. We'd get in trouble for failing to memorize bible verses verbatim. One day myself and another of us informed our teacher that our Bibles literally didn't say the same things. 3 Bibles, side by side from 2 publishers, all manufactured on the same date, all 3 had completely different wording. I found 7 differing bibles in our class before the pastor forced me to let it go. It's not even consistent from copy to copy

Not only did I “actually” read the Bible, I went to seminary. I have a masters degree in theology. And that is why I no longer believe any of it.

The bible is very accurate, especially when thrown from a short distance.

So Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a film/book that shows the life of this guy who I found out actually exists from other sources. And it got right that he lived in Indiana and Illinois, married a woman named Mary Todd, became President of the United States, and it also got right that Jefferson Davis was President of the Confederate States of America. So clearly all of this historically accurate information means that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is an entirely true and accurate story. Checkmate avampirists!

in an attempt to bond with my dad, i read the whole bible alongside him over the course of a year when i was 8. it caused me to have major doubts until i finally left christianity 14 years later. since i read it so early on, it really shaped how i viewed christianity growing up, and i was able to gradually let it go without too much internal crisis. i only really held on as long as i did to avoid disapproval from my parents

This is why I support online courses for Biblical history. Nothing destroys the power these pastors/apologists have over your life like seeing first hand what they are so afraid of: that the Bible isn't particularly special or different from other books of the same cultures and time periods.
