One of the best dystopian stories ever written. As the tale unfolds, the breakdown of society gets worse and worse. I especially liked the details of how the narrator, Josella and Coker avoided being blinded.

What a beautifully narrated novel. Calming to listen to and a fascinating development of the story.

Sam West is fast becoming my favourite audiobook narrator. His Tolkien stuff, done with his father, is fantastic.

The mention of Gustav Dore makes this a must read.

Do not be put off by the title or the science fiction label. This is an excellent novel. The narrator is first rate with a tone and pace that brings the emotions of the novel to life. The story has aged very well and posses questions that are quite relevant to today.

I was born in the Eastern Ukraine and never heard of this book until by a lucky accident I had bought it on the street for three hryvnas (less than half a dollar at the time). The next night I fell asleep when the sun was already rising, because it was absolutely impossible to interrupt reading it. It was more than twenty years ago, but even now it is one of my favourites, which I've since read in Russian, Polish and English. If you still haven't read this amazing book, then you are an extremely lucky fellow, cause you can still read (or listen to) it for the first time in your life, and I can't.
