My mom took me to see this in the theatre. This was amazing to a 7 year old kid.

I never saw the movie but I remember they put ads on the back of every Marvel comic book that summer promoting Megaforce. But it wasn’t until I was looking at my old comic books that looked up the movie to see how it did. The artwork on the ads made the bearded lead actor look a lot like Chuck Norris (I’m sure it was on purpose). Back in 1982 I assumed it was a Chuck Norris movie.

I've talked to Barry Bostwick on several occasions at GalaxyCon about the filming of the movie and even had him sign a Megaforce ID card as Commander Ace Hunter, making me an official member of the Unit.

Great guy, extremely personable and great with the fans.

Interestingly, one the movie's stars -- Edward Mulhare -- would land his most famous role two years later by interacting with another futuristic vehicle named K.I.T.T. on "Knight Rider."

As a Ten year old at the time I was enthralled that someone out there was making movies for me it seemed like. I had seen the promo ads and did see the movie. I liked it.
A week or Two later I saw a headline in the entertainment section of a newspaper entitled “Megaforce a Megabomb”. I remember being disappointed to see that.
There is competition for people’s entertainment budget. It’s a war. Someone decided to pull a fast one on Needham. Because, none of them could ever be as cool as he was. Sciskel and Ebert, aren’t going to pass on critiquing negatively on such a big ole target as Megaforce, to try to somehow prove their adulthood. It was a movie made for kids not adults. That’s why Needham, will always be so loved. He did a lot of cool stuff because it was cool. Not because he was trying to impress his critics. Hal, was an action hero.

The headband. That's why it failed. The headband and the dumb shiny track suit. I did like the Hot Wheels cars.
