  Fallout fans are so hungry for content that they&apos;ve been willing to enter an alternate dimension and literally descend into hell just to enjoy a couple more hours of gameplay

  the idea of this series being about the communities inability to let go of New Vegas speaks volumes, and can even be hinted at in the very first upload. Bosch going outside of the gates because of his desire to want more from this game, to want more than it could ever give in the first place in such a unique way to subtly foreshadow the resolution of the story

  If I had to interpret it, it feels like it&apos;s more like the alternate universe/dimension is one where Mr. House:<br>- Is left in a much worse state than he was in our version of NV before going into the pod (hinted at with the pod found in Bottom and the general hinting that he was recovered from a plane crash, the shape of the body inside is pretty dire, and likely the scandal left him underfunded for protecting Las Vegas, leaving him with only the option of preserving himself OR getting that missile defense system online, which I believe the &quot;please, please forgive me&quot; parts of his dialogue reference)<br>- The nuclear war went <b>way</b> worse than the normal Fallout, in that it seems to have wiped EVERYTHING off the map, or at least House&apos;s failure to protect Las Vegas has left it completely destroyed<br>- Is in a real purgatory where enough of Lucky 38 functions to keep his damaged body alive<br>- Is not joking about it managing to work for almost a million years.<br>- Cannot even communicate this well as while the core machinery has kept him in a living dead world (for humanity) for nearly a million years, the speech output system is fucked<br><br>Whatever inhabits Earth at that point is not human. It HAS spawned and grown in a radioactive hellscape, unlike our FEV-fueled Super Mutants and Deathclaws. Which makes Bosch being so damaged by the damn things and often down what little ammo he finds make a lot of sense.<br><br>There&apos;s also vibes of this being the end result of the metaphorical cannibalization that New Vegas did to Van Buren. The half-realized form of the world, things that feel like beta-testing like the radroach room, how much of it feels like it references Van Buren as if these were the original ideas that lead to some of the stuff we saw in NV. It&apos;s like New Vegas is a fully born and realized human being, and Van Buren is this stillborn corpse Bosch has accidentally ended up in.<br><br>To me the biggest reason to let go is that the idea of this &quot;keeps&quot; this version of House around, whereas letting go means letting him go, means him finally dying as the world itself fades into nonexistence instead of this half-life (pun intended) for him while literally everything else is dead. Even Bosch ends up on a moon base that doesn&apos;t exist and the game finally doesn&apos;t know what to do with that as he sleeps on a bed with a window to Earth. It&apos;s a world where House&apos;s selfishness had reason to take over his wisdom and foresight, and he&apos;s paid the ultimate price of AM-ing himself in a dead world he&apos;d otherwise get immediately killed in even if he could hop out of the pod completely fine. Perfectly insulated from the only things that could end it for him.

  The &quot;Last Men&quot; corpses could also be a reference to Friedrich Nietzsche&apos;s Thus Spoke Zarathustra. They appear in the story as the antithesis of the Übermensch, and are supposed to be nihilistic people at the end times who only care about being comfortable and ease of life. They&apos;re called that way because Zarathustra tries to warn the people he meets in that story of this fate in an attempt to convince them to pursue becoming the Übermensch instead (unfortunately for him, the people turn out to love the idea of being comfortable all day and not having to care for their life, so they turn out liking the idea of being Last Men...)<br>Another reference to Thus Spoke Zarathustra could be the very start of the story at the Mojave Outpost where b0sch climbs the fence to glitch out of the playable area. He jokes about it being a tightrope and falls off of it at one point. The first time Zarathustra tries to go out and convince humanity to avoid becoming Last Men, the people of that village had assembled at the market place to watch a rope dancer perform. He compares the rope to man and its start as the animal and end as the Übermensch. The rope dancer falls off the rope and is mortally wounded, with Zarathustra comforting him as he dies and eventually burying him outside the town after being warned to leave because the people hated him. <br>Interestingly, that chapter ends with &quot;Thus began Zarathustra’s down-going.&quot;...

  I just want to point out that despite everyone insisting on calling that one famous Goya painting &quot;Saturn devouring his son&quot;, that&apos;s not the title of the painting. The paintings were, as you mentioned, secret and deeply personal to Goya. He didn&apos;t title them or explain them in any way, and every title applied to them in the years since has been an attempt from art historians to make the paintings make sense.<br><br>Attempts to make the darkest artworks of Goya&apos;s life more comprehensible has permanently damaged a lot of conversations about the pieces- because now instead of being forced to grapple with these grim, nameless, contextless glimpses of horror, you get given simple answers like &quot;that&apos;s just a depiction of Saturn&quot;. This is ignoring that in the legends, Saturn ate his children in their infancy, meanwhile the painting depicts a horrible figure devouring an adult man.

  I love that the weird russian radio broadcast is probably a reference to the old fallout 3 numbers station creepypasta, the creator has so much love for the fallout community and it shows in like everything
