That's a nice setup. I have the Tecra 750DVD. I do agree that these laptops do have a great sound card.

I had an Elonex Savanah Elite 200mhz MMX which came with a very slimline plug in rear dock that gave you the joystick ports and composite out etc etc. I got it 2nd hand, effectively for free around 2000. It was my mums daily laptop until 2004 when I got her an IBM Thinkpad. I then used the Elonex for retrogaming for several years until I moved to Dosbox. I sold it a couple of years ago.

Wow no way, this is the model that they used to subsidize for us in school when I was like 14!

It was so so good.

I hope sometime in the future we get full screen scaling for the S3 chipsets like these. Audio is perfect though

One of my absolute favourites, great to see it on your channel and the performance testing you've done is going to be great to refer to in future.
IT can also be found as the Tecra 750DVD (which has a DVD decoder integrated too) and the Tecra 750CDT.
If only there was a way to break out the game port & midi without the dock, it'd be almost perfect then - although one thing to be aware of with the Tecra 750 series is that the LCD panel's column drivers are prone to failing causing vertical lines on the screen. I've found that the LT133X1-106 works as a direct replacement and you can find that lots of Dell CPi series laptops.
Additionally, there's been a community effort to remake that caddy connector which you can find in the "The elusive Toshiba laptop HDD connector" thread on vogons.

Previously it was a Toshiba Tecra 550 CDT with Intel Pentium MMX CPU @ 266 MHz than the fastest desktop Socket 7, S3 Virge MX 3D GPU and Yamaha OPL3-SA3 sound card.

Another fantastic Toshiba model I have had my eye out for as well. Pretty easy bios battery removal if you ask me.

Have you experimented with hooking these laptops up to a modern display? I have had good luck with a retrotink 4k over VGA. This will let you get various shadow mask and scan line emulation to help complete the look.

For some of my laptops I use a portable monitor and just plunk it over the stock laptop screen. A handy way to get around meh 90s LCD tech.

Love your videos! I have its more modest "brother", the 480CDT and love it to bits! Although I would love the better S3 video card ;) Fn+F2 just reduces the screen brightness in mine, I might be missing some piece of software or something?
