I'm thinking if a person wanted to adapt this idea to a larger lathe with more spinning momentum as a chuck brake might be necessary to build in friction materials where it contacts. Anyway your idea seems to suit the purpose and an elegant design!

That's super cool. Would also be pretty slick to create an interlock with a microswitch to cut power to the spindle motor when the brake is engaged.

Love seeing both the range of what can be done on a lathe, and also the shots where we can see your hands as you're working. Since I'm planning a small hobby shop myself, seeing this kind of lathe work shows me that I can get by without the mill for a good long while.

I was googling to find somethonf just like this and here it is, and for what looks to be a similar lathe to what i have! Now I'll just need to mess up 20 to 50 of them before I can make one that works
