The Rolls Royce hood ornament is called the “Spirit of Ecstasy” not “The Winged Victory.” It was a sculpture made to commemorate one of the founders concubines.

I only know that because i said “Winged Victory” at a trivia night once and lost.

I wish you would have mentioned the prices on a few of the objects. This would give us an idea what this antique/resale would cost us. There was a candelabra set that I would have taken a look at, but how much were they?

I can say that, for the vast majority of items, Portobello is the most expensive place to buy. Lots of choice, expert dealers who know the value of everything. Very high quality, low quality - all together. It’s an easy shop in that you know it’s every Sunday. The cheapest places to buy are “boot fairs”. Usually outside London, these are 90% rubbish, 9% okay and 1% gems. You have to get there very early (7 am?) and rush around looking 10 different places at once. Most weeks, you won’t find that gem - but when you do, it’s superb. Next best are antique fairs. Nothing unknown to the seller is going to be found and so much is just house clearance, but you will find the quirky - and much cheaper than Portobello. Last are the established antique shops/arcades in many towns. Often, many dealers under one roof. No miracles but always surprises.

Portobello = high end, quality, convenient, very expensive
