I'll never forget my very first playthrough on the PS3 going to a Giant camp, thinking I could defeat it with the crap iron sword. That's when I discovered the Skyrim space program.

As someone with 1000+ hours in Skyrim across multiple consoles and pcs, I always enjoy a good beginners guide.

I just bought this game on Steam for $4 a couple weeks ago. I’ve been playing it and find it enjoyable, although I have no idea what I’m doing half the time. Maybe being 60 doesn’t help but it’s an amazing game. Looking forward to the exploration. I think this video will help a lot.

Are you kidding me? The first thing I did when I got to Riwerwood for the first time was kill a chicken thinking "whatever, I just killed a deer running into the village, what could possibly go wrong?" Well, didn't even get a chance to blink and there I was laying dead. 😂

 2 tips from me.

- Play the game naturally for your first time (don't look at loot location videos etc)

- some books will give you a level increase and finding them in bookshelves or mixed in with other books can be a chore. However, these books are worth more money (50+ gold) so just hover over the books and only look for the valuable ones

 1) It doesn't matter who you escape Helgen with, you can still join either the Imperials or the Stormcloaks.
1a) That said, Hadvar's uncle is the Riverwood smith, so getting on his good side lets you take most of the equipment and bars around his forge, which makes for a decent head start.

2) Magic Resistance doesn't just protect you from fire/frost/shock spells from Mages, but enchantments on weapons, poisons, and even dragon shouts and breath attacks. It does cap at 85%. though that will still do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Bretons start with 25% MR. The Agent of Mara perk grants you 15%, rewarded from a quest started in Riften's chapel. The Lord Stone gives you 25% (and 50 armour), found East of Morthal. The Alteration skill tree offers three levels of perk at skill level 30/50/70, each worth 10%. (Which all adds up to 95% - you only need to take 2/3 levels of the Alteration tree perk with this setup)
