Tekken 8 is hard for beginners, and that's a good thing

You stick with basketball because there's something about tossing the ball up and seeing it go in that drives you to wanting to do it more. You stick with golf because getting that good shot feels so rewarding you can suffer through shanking it into the woods 75% of the time. You stick with guitar because you love music, and making music with your own hands creates a rewarding drive deep inside that you push through the callous development and rote scales, finding that every time you hit a milestone with a technique you're flooded with the good feels.

You stick with Tekken/fighting games because you love landing punches, kicks, and combos, and you just want to get out there and land more.

If you find yourself disconnected from that joy, sink back into your roots and reconnect with it. Then it's easy to stick with, because the outcome doesn't matter, since the joy is in the activity itself.

I think a huge key for improvement is to have sparring partners near your level to practice with, that you can communicate and problem solve with.

Getting my first low parry on purpose was such a great feeling.

I practice a combat sport and I always say that Tekken and FGs in general should be sooner compared to sports rather than other videogames. The training time, the drills, the learning process... it's all so similar that I can honestly say I have applied some knowledge gained from Tekken into the sport and vice versa. A lot of people come into Tekken expecting to find the same feedback loop of other videogames, even the very sweaty competitive ones, but that's simply not going to happen.

There's days were I don't spar irl because I know that I'm not feeling well enough or I'm not in the right mind space to do it; if I did I would get bodied and not learn much. In Tekken it's easier to say "I'll play ranked anyway" even if you're not really up to it because it obviously doesn't put your body through the same stress and pain of an actual real life match but the end result is often the same. In those moments where I know I won't have a good day sparring I train; cardio, weights, drills, bagwork etc. In tekken you should do the same; if you feel frustrated you should go and train, get some positive feedback by doing that and then the next day bring those positive vibes to ranked or your local scene and have fun

"You only get to be a noob once" Is the single sentence that changes how we should look at life. Being a Noob isn't an insult.... Its a gift

Something I feel like all new players should do is:
- Go into group matches
- Keep playing til somebody bodies you
- Review the replay
- Come back and 3-0 them

It's crazy how easily a beginner can easily beat a Mighty Ruler+ just by knowing a few answers.

Another strat is to start with a ~12 frame punish on a move you recognize and gradually increase (or decrease) the frames on your punishment til you know the answer. Also pay attention to your plus frames AFTER the attack successfully lands (so you can plan follow-up options).

You know what's funny, people will mention a lot about how rank doesn't matter, but yet in so many discussions people feel the need to disclose their rank prior to making statements.

PhiDX you are 100% correct. I bought the game at the end of February and been playing it everyday and I just finally learn a 60 damage Yoshi air combo and I am finally able to do it in ranked. I am a gifted ice skater and I learned Mandarin Chinese at 19 and passed the fluency test at 23 and still can read write and speak it today, I also am a software developer and all of these things were easier for me than Tekken 8 and because of Tekken 8 I learned that I am training parts of my brain that I haven't before and guess what, now I believe I can take Tekken 8 skills to music. I will try it out and learn you know how I do. Great content as always.

This is exactly what people need to hear! So many players are obsessed with getting high ranks one way or the other whether they get it the fair way by grinding or doing other unscrupulous means. A lot of players like u said are only too eager to just show off their ranks even if they didn't get it the right way or clearly just cheesed weaker players. You said it perfectly when u said its all about the process the losses learning and growing as a player and accepting the bitter pills to grow as a player. That is what a lot of players need to hear right now. Great video!

Development will be faster if the mindset of the player is to learn, and not to focus on ranks.

Really learned a lot from you PhiDX even if I played a long time since tekken 3 😂

I'm playing one of the hardest music rhythm game (beatmania IIDX) for 6 years and I was reaching to clear the highest rank course, After having that mentality on focusing on just having fun and celebrating minor breakthroughs like clearing a hard song, that clicked me on putting that mentality to Tekken and realizing that I should've done that too. I learned that "Yay! I finally know how to clear this particular song" and "Yay! I learned how to escape King's grabs" is much the same.

I'm still stuck at Yellow Rank at the time i'm commenting this but seeing the bright side to see that I at least consistently defended not to go back to green rank feels like a celebration, making me more motivated to learn more to get out of Yellow.

TL;DR I can attest that kind of mentality works! You may not see the result immediately but those were the skills that you won't even notice that you did.

After playing Tekken 7 for 2 years I magically started being able to break throws in 8. I have no idea what changed. But it's very rewarding to be able to do that finally.
