  When a building requires an elaborate, energy-hungry system to function perfectly to keep it habitable, it doesn&apos;t have a bright future. &nbsp;As the mechanical components age and electricity costs rise, the Burj will become economically impractical to maintain.

  From the Netherlands here: Am I happy on my fourth floor with open windows, gallery and balcony, enjoying people passing by and little children play only ten metres lower. And all that overlooking a park like space with ponds and trees plenty. In general, as an architect I have always thought that in THAT climate a skyscraper is more or less the most inefficient and stupid building to realize. Exactly for the reasons, and some more, you indicated in this report. Add to that the impersonal, chilly athmosphere of the whole of Dubai - almost expats only with no ties to the place or each other - &nbsp;and I certainly will not go there let alone live there.

  The building is a reflection of its owners and users. &nbsp;Beautiful on the outside but the doorway of hell on the inside.

  I’ve seen a number of videos on the explosive growth and emphasis on “bigger than” anything before it, but I also think there is a lot of build first; and think second.

  Las Vegas, Nevada experimented with residential passive cooling/heating, solar energy, etc. at Spring Preserve. It’s an interesting exhibit that anyone who is interested in this type of technology is wise to visit. (Save your money &amp; stay off The Strip. It’s a rip off folks.)
