For police officers in the UK (as well as any emergency responder) unlike the US the focus is much more on de-escalation. That’s why the police officers were being nice to Jamie. The theory is that fear is often met with anger, so if you’re polite, inquisitive and kind, you not only can de-escalate a volatile situation, but you can also build trust and rapport, which can make getting answers and cooperation easier. This show is amazing, I’ve got my whole family to watch it. Unlike other crime dramas, this one isn’t a “who-dun-it” or about the logistics of the crime, we already know by the end of the first episode that Jamie killed Katie, but it’s about the why. What could bring a young boy, from a “normal” home, to the point where he could commit violence against women.

Owen Cooper plays the little boy, Jamie. This is his first acting job, the first time ever on screen. He’s unbelievably phenomenal. He will be one to watch out for.

Each episode of the series is entirely one shot the full episode, the amount of work and prep they must have gone through is crazy

When the police arrived at the house they had no idea of what they would be met by. They didn't know if there would be guns, knives or what the family would be like so they went in heavy. Once in the house, they could make an assessment of how to proceed and saw there was no need to handcuff the boy. When the desk sergeant was booking him in he could see that he was scared and had no idea what was going on so he was gentle with him. Our police are trained to de-escalate situations because they won't get anything from a suspect under extreme stress or who is aggressive.

It’s fucking brutal guys. Be prepared. The real time thing is what makes it so panic inducing as each part gets harder to watch.

Interesting that you referred to the Mother as emotional when in fact we see the most emotional reactions from the Father. Anger, frustration and confusion are also emotions.

Watch an episode of 24 Hours In Police Custody. The way the police speak to everyone is exactly how a Custody Sergeant would in real life in the UK

All the episodes were shot in one take in real time, no stops or hidden cuts. Each episode was filmed 10 times (2 times a day for a week), and in the end they chose the best take out of them all.
For the first episode take two was used. For all the rest of the episodes they used the final take.
The boy who played Jamie was 14 when filming.

I don't think the woman cop not having kids has any relevance to how she would feel about the case. She's a woman, at the end of the day. There are enough people caring about Jamie with kid gloves, whereas she would relate to the victim being another girl murdered.
Btw the actor who plays the father, Stephen Graham, was one of the creators and writers of this series. The long shot camera tells this story amazingly, showing many different POVs in one shot. Even with minimal dialogue, the facial expressions and tension add so much intensity to this whole episode.

It's interesting that Rekkai calls the Mom emotional because that's the kind of casual (and blatant) misogyny the show is shedding a light on
