  I&apos;ve never seen a dumber farming set-up than California. Orchards of water hungry pistachio trees. Growing alfalfa for export to Saudi Arabia. None of it makes any sense and it&apos;s 100% propped up by unsustainable, inexpensive water use, in a desert environment.

  I&apos;m an attorney and I remember studying water rights law back in school. &nbsp;It was complicated as hell then, and is even more so now. &nbsp;You did a great job putting things in plain English. &nbsp;Kudos!

  We had warnings for 80 years. In the early 1960s, the flow of water into Colorado River Delta began drying up and in some years, the Colorado ceased to flow into the Gulf of California. We took the water in Lake Powell from Mexico. That we needed to do this should have pushed into water reforms. Instead, we wasted it with mismanagement.

  We have so many Eastern states in which agriculture is dead and fertile fields turn to warehouses. Lets grow our food in the desert.

  Maybe all the green manicured lawns and golf courses in a desert. Not to mention water intensive crops in a desert isn&apos;t a good idea. Who could have thought that unusual wet years wouldn&apos;t last?
