Spoiler<br>Maybe I wasn't listening carefully but the plot seems broken. In the US, a person of sound mind can bequeath property as they see fit (unless there are other legal entailments). Blood decent is not a legal requirement but it matters for this story.<br><br><br>Saying she is the qualified inheritor because the estate comes from the maternal line does not fit the given facts in the story. <br><br>If saying 'you are my blood' means love is more real, I cannot relate. My view of adoption must be skewed compared to people - computers? - writing these tales. Adoption is a choice whereas one could say parents are stuck with their living offspring - no choice involved (ignoring the abortion debate). Granted, one sees family resemblances in blood decendents that are missing in adoption.<br><br>Story line is that the GM had two sons, with different fathers. Decendents of each son are from her maternal line. Plot is broken if matrilineal decent is the only test.<br><br>If the estate came from the paternal line, from Marcus' father's family, it could fit but why would it be the Anderson estate if Richard et al are Andersons? <br><br>If Richard was the older son instead of Marcus & the GM was a second wife, not Richard's mother, the estate could decend solely from the maternal line but again, why is it called the Anderson estate if it belongs to the maternal line? GM never changed her name and her husbands/decendents took her name?
