Your support has blown us away! Thanks again!

This was one of the videos we had planned to do before we even launched the channel itself - it took us a good 6-7 months to get around to it but we are so glad that we did!

British guy here, pub culture is on the decline due to rise in costs of alcohol and drink only pubs struggling to stay afloat without food (there are a lot of pubs in the UK that you would never want to eat in but are good for going for a pint) also there has been a rise in chain pubs such as brewdog and wetherspoons which is putting small local pubs out of business

Hey Chris, I'm from up in Yorkshire which legally has at least 5 pubs in every village. I'm by no means an expert, but here are just a few factors contributing to the decline of pub culture:

- People born as millennials and younger generally socialise in different ways. The classic local 'pub' isn't the universal venue anymore. People have house parties, go to more cosmopolitan bars, night clubs, etc. In addition, there has been a decline in the proportion of younger people who partake in alcohol culture in general.

- Costs. Local pubs are almost always operating on the edge nowadays. Costs of supplies, buying their drinks from breweries, etc. Throughout the last couple of years especially, rising energy costs (green tariffs, Ukraine War, global instability, etc) have wiped out a massive proportion of the pubs that remain, including some establishments with a history dating back to the 1200s.

- Community cohesion has generally declined. Pubs used to be (and still are sometimes) a hub of the local community. Unfortunately, many local communities have been atomised owing to many, many factors including immigration, social media, increasingly busy work schedules, geographically wider friend groups, etc.

Even though I don't really partake, you can still find a lot of great little places if you explore the right places.

I never thought a video on the history of Pubs would have caught my attention until it was posted by you as a breakdown video. Charisma/character certainly does matter, and your interest on different topics definitely rubs off on us as well.

My towns oldest pub was built in 1405 and 2 pubs in my town provided inspiration for Dickens' Pickwick Papers when he visited. So much history.

My 9th great grandfather Isaac Davis built the Davis Tavern in Marbletown, New York, around 1710. It was used as the town’s meeting place for over a century, and is the oldest town meeting place in New York State.

I think the decline in pub culture is at least partially due to the newer generation. There are more people that are going dry than ever before, and beer is becoming less and less popular. A lot of pubs have reputations of being quite rowdy so some people avoid them for that. The cost if living crisis os upoing the price of goods so pubs are becomeing less popular.

Edit. I would also say that the decline in factory work and secondary industry will also play a part as less people work in their local area and the going for a drink after work with your colleagues, while still common in cities, smaller towns are losing that culture as people aren't as willing to go drink after their commute home

This is so funny. I’ve been a fan of Fizhy’s channel for years. He makes videos about the lore and history of Red Dead Redemption but made this channel to talk about real history and immediately subscribed being one of his first few subs
