  I've experienced chronic pain for 50 plus years  from an autoimmune and can't imagine life without the pain.  It has shaped who I am in that it has affected my response to life but that doesn't mean I need to continue to have this disability to be the person it has shaped me to be.  I think that's the same with any disability or limitation.  We have it to teach us what we need to understand in God's kingdom.  God meant His creation to be perfect and when the time is right, it will be and we will all be transformed.   Christ retained the scars for identification because it says  the disciples didn't recognize him after his resurrection.

  An excellent interview. For more on our physical & resurrected bodies I highly recommend “Body: Biblical spirituality for the whole person” by Paula Gooder, which echoes and expands on this subject.

  I just found/watched this today. What a wonderful conversation! Not just for content but to hear and see exemplified what it means for siblings in Christ to search the scriptures together, to think thru the hard parts as colleagues searching for the ultimate: understanding God and how we can make him seen in this world through us. And in that, leaving room to realize we won’t know all the answers until that day when we have the mind of Christ. O, glorious day! Come quickly Lord Jesus.

  I love Carmen. She is one of my favorite authors. I agree with a lot of what she says about being made in the imago Dei, but I agree more with Sean on our resurrected body. I believe we will be completely healthy like Adam was in the garden, and that diseases are the work of the enemy and our own faults sometimes. Everything God created was good, and based on all of Moses’ preachings especially in Deuteronomy he was not disabled. Yes, he had identity issues but not a disability. Most ancient cultures rejected people with disabilities, I don’t think He wouldn’t have been the respectable leader that he was had he been disabled.

  One thing that is very unique to the Deaf community is the role of language which comes part and parcel with their embodied reality, and if all tribes and languages are going to be present in the New Jerusalem, then while we can debate whether Deaf persons will “hear” in the new creation, we should not dismiss the “identity and language and culture” that could still be maintained. As my brother once said, perhaps what will happen in new creation is that even he will understand sign language too! I liked Dr Imes mention of “obstructions to access” simply being removed. Perhaps nobody needs to change that much, but all the barriers are taken down.
