Remarkable that these works from so long ago still exist for our awe and appreciation. I appreciate your trouble in locating them.

Another artist (or more properly cartoonist) briefly featured in Judge in the '20s, was one Sidney J. Perelman. His first works imitated Held's 'woodcut' style; later he adopted a peculiar, geometric template style, among others. His career soon shifted to writing, though, and he became one of the great American humorists of the 20th century.

Perhaps a certain mental instability haunts quite a number of artists. It is a calling that gives no guarantees, despite outstanding talent. The insecurity this imparts must be unsettling. Flagg's Uncle Sam is incredibly famous, yet he produced so much else, including wonderful portraits and caricatures. Broders' elegant early fashion drawings superseded by travel posters are certainly impressive. Poor Bolles pin-ups and voluptuous ladies depicted in Gay Parisienne (isn't it funny how words lose their original meaning?). Rojankovsky produced such enchanting illustrations - a tempting invitation for a child to learn more about these magic pictures. Lastly Barton, offering an almost bewildering change in style, extraordinary cartoons and colourful illustrations. Sad that he had mental troubles and succumbed to them. Once more, such an impressive quintet of artists, chosen by you and paraded to a world that has forgotten them. Thank you.

Part #12
Usually there is one or two of your 5 illustrations that are a little too avantegarde for me but these 5 selected are all outstanding for my simple tastes. All examples are very lifelike illustrations with a few somewhat risque examples. As usual, I'm drawn to the pin-ups that Enoch Bolles seems to do so provocatively. Really beautiful work despite his apparent mental breakdowns. Thirty years in a mental ward is so sad for such a talent. Adding to his misfortune seems to be a cruel long 93 year lifespan. At least you've shown us all that his life wasn't entirely wasted.
Another outstanding video. Thank you!
