The History of Coltan — From Obscure Congo Ore to the Fuel of the Digital Age

#Coltan #Tantalum #ConflictMinerals Coltan helped make modern electronics smaller and more reliable — but its connection to Congo, conflict and smartphones is far more complicated than most headlines suggest. The mineral in your phone may not be Congolese coltan at all, yet tantalum remains a strategic material in the global digital economy. This documentary follows coltan from artisanal mines in eastern Congo to smelters, capacitors, electronics manufacturers and international regulations. It examines the real role of tantalum in technology, the 2000s mining boom, armed groups, child labor, supply-chain transparency and the continuing crisis around Rubaya. Based on geological surveys, United Nations records, government investigations, technical studies and conflict-minerals research, this video separates documented facts from common myths and explains why tracing a mineral’s origin becomes increasingly difficult after processing.
