  I have chosen to be a Christian and a member of a church even though I know that my religion (like all of them) is not literally true. I enjoy the ritual and community but I take all the stories and theology as myth (Joseph Campbell). I used to tell people in the church group I lead, &quot;I believe and don&apos;t believe at the same time&quot; but stopped after too many blank looks. I also tell them that it&apos;s not our theology (which will be argued and debated endlessly) but our love (for which no one argues against) that binds us. I think this is the future of spirituality. Some will say &quot;I&apos;m an atheist&quot; and some will &quot;leap&quot; into some God concept and some won&apos;t think it&apos;s necessary to decide one way or another. But we will all agree to love one another and to honor our felt experiences. Keep up the good work!

  My relationship with faith is in connection to humanity. I don’t take these archaic writings as literal, but enjoy how their minds perceived before the laws of physics were introduced. ❤

  As always, Brit, you speak my language. I grew up in a Sufi Muslim household, with both my maternal grandparents known as theological scholars in Morocco. I’m also a descendant of Abd al-Salām ibn Mashīsh al-Alamī, the mystic who chose solitude and a direct path to the divine. Somewhere along my own journey, that heritage evolved into what I call being a Sufi atheist. It catches people off guard, but for me it simply means feeling deeply in tune with the greater universe, my higher self, something I’m inseparably part of.

  This video was so refreshing to me. I have a similar story...fundamentalist christian, then going into deep skepticism, but keeping spirituality throughout the whole process, realizing the original intent of most religions were people have profound mystical experiences. Its hard to walk the line between skepticism and spirituality and you do a good job at it

  Thomas Merton helped point me towards mysticism decades ago.<br>His dialogue with Buddhist monks/ mystics got me started…❤

  I&apos;ve been an atheist mystic for years. It&apos;s wild that people get stuck in either theist or atheist boxes. <br><br>I became a spiritual seeker which is what led me to atheism as a stop on the way to truth, but I didn&apos;t get stuck there. There&apos;s treasure beyond that station that is incredibly rewarding beyond my wildest dreams.

  The prodigal son story in my Sunday school was all about how the elder son is incapable of understanding the forgiveness of his father. It was a call to the already saved to not hold people’s pasts against them. That interpretation was probably pretty fundamental to the life track that has ended (thus far) with me being a woke lefty
