<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVXF3QTWMm4&t=253">4:13</a> has anyone tried using a hand plane to shave these pages flush?

See, I've done clorox always on my new used books and I still got a mold issue right now. Used silica and dollar store moisture eliminator w/ charcoal.

Thank you. When ppl apply drying oils like linseed oil to leather to make it more flexible, that flexibility will only last so long no. As linseed oil dries through oxidation, it hardens, and those fibers will harden and become more and more brittle I assume. If you paint on fabric like cotton or linen with linseed oil, the canvas needs to be first protected by rabbit skin glue or gesso, otherwise those fibers will over time get destroyed because of the linseed oil. Applying linseed oil directly to fabric is considered a big no-no in the world of art preservation, there's a whole industry of sealants to make sure linseed or safflower oil never directly comes into contact with the fabric, because they're drying oils, they dry through oxidation. So I wonder if it does not damage leather in the long run too.

@antiquebookcollective Can you tell is it better to keep books in open book shelfs or closed with glass doors? Is it true that closed bookcase have problem with air circulation so book can become moldy or smell on damp?

Hello! I currently got an old paperback book from a library that was discarding it and I’ve wanted to read it, but the pages are super yellowed, it smells a lot like mildew (it leaves my fingers smelling of it after touching the book), and it leaves my hands somewhat itchy after touching the book for a few minutes. Is there a way to get rid of the mildew smell, and could there be anything wrong with the book that caused someone’s skin to itch after touching it?
