We need to stop treating boys like they're just defective girls.

Wait… my governor says there’s no difference between boys and girls. How can this be?

I absolutely hated school. It was either crippling stress and anxiety or being bored out of my mind.

Former middle school math / economics teacher here. In my experience, I found that sometimes boys who were giving female teachers problems, would not necessarily give me a problem. In fact when I found out about it sometimes I would say “Oh really, [insert name]?”. Some types of personality just much better with difficulty teachers, but I put it on the fact that those students usually didn’t have a dad.

I found the boys learned a lot better when you made the lessons interactive, or talked about things that they could understand. For example, one of my lessons was “Economics through the eyes of the captain of a pirate ship”.

And they all certainly liked it when I was explaining how the stock market worked, I let each of them pick a company and I actually bought a share of that company to make it a competition.

There’s a not-so-subtle war against masculinity.

I have twins, a boy and a girl. Same school, same teachers. Yet I am often called in for meeting regarding my son's performance and attitude "problems". The same teachers praise my daughter's ability to concentrate and participate in class. Yet, my son's grades are higher, he is a sports captain, and won the science award for his school. Many times he a felt discouraged by the school system and teachers. There is clearly a double standard at play.

I struggled in school. Teachers said I was just dumb and I believed them. Then I started highschool and began taking shop class, auto shop, and other vocational classes and shined. Turns out I wasn't stupid. I was just bored and needed something to do.

It has a lot to do with the teacher as well. When my son was 7 years old, he just got transitioned to a new school, and the teacher from the new school said he needed some mental counselling. The teacher left not long after, and soon after that my son became one of the top 3 pupils consistently, right through his primary school and his middle school, and at 14 he is still doing well. A teacher with prejudice can easily doom a child's future.

My kindergarten teacher called my mom complaining because I was "singing" in the bathroom, and I would daydream during assignments. She literally despised boys.
