  100 signal men have been run over in 10 years . Recently an sse in Ratlam division was run over. Failures and maintainance has to be completed irrespective of your health conditions. Leaves are very hard to get. Work culture is very very toxic. It is a safety category job so work is inspected by officers at both regular and irregular intervals and in case if any negligence is found, chargesheet is handed out immediately to the concerned ESM/JE often it is given to ESM. There is a joke that even if you are with your wife at night, you&apos;ll still have to attend failures. <br>There will be a time, when as an ESM or JE you&apos;ll face discrimination in train, because the TTE will often allocate sleeper seats to you even if you are level 5 or 6 he will sometimes ask for authority. Now instead of that if a person from Traffic department like pointsman or station master or anyone from commercial or hr accounts or any other non technical department is travelling without authority, the tte happily allocated seats to them in ac coaches. You will be disrespected by the station master occasionally and if you fight with him you colleagues will not save you.<br>The same condition is for officers of s and t department. I myself have seen AOM from traffic department scolding ASTE from s and t department. Even a pointsman of level 1 has a better job profile and career growth opportunities than ESM/JE. Many pointsman often become Train managers, Station Masters, TTE, ect. Within 2 to 3 years he will be promoted through LDCE and GDCE<br>We have to study a lot to land a job. So consider all these points before you decide to come into s and t department as JE or ESM. Focus your energy elsewhere is my advice. Rest your wish.
