What Narcissists are Terrified You'll Discover About Them

Why are narcissists so desperate to be seen, admired, validated, and understood—yet become so threatened when you begin to see who they really are behind the mask? There is an enormous difference between being admired and being truly known. In the beginning of a narcissistic relationship, you often know the narcissist through the version of themselves they carefully present to you. But over time, something changes. You have history now. You’ve witnessed the contradictions. You’ve watched what happens when they’re challenged, held accountable, criticized, or confronted with something they don’t want to see about themselves. Eventually, you stop simply listening to their explanations and start recognizing their patterns.
