The real improvement will come when you realize that the learning happens inside your brain and your job is to show up every day and keep exposing yourself to the language.
Steve making great videos, as always.

one of the most difficult things is finding interesting content at your level, especially as a beginner.

I totally agree with Steve. Years ago I was learning spanish with different tutors. I even passed the european level B2 exam but I didn't speak. My grammar was good, the oral exam was SO low. When I begun learning the language I told my tutor that I just wanted to learn to speak which I never did. I stopped learning the language. Then on TV (this was long ago) there was every day for two hours this spanish series "Seis hermanas". For 6 months every evening I would watch and listen to this everyday spanish language, expressions and words that would repeat on and on again. The plot helped in that, it wasn't very complex. I even understood the subjuntivo because I heard it literally tens of times every evening and I thought that it wasn't so hard after all. After a few months I asked my husband (who doesn't speak spanish) if it was ok for me to speak spanish in front of him. Why did I do that? Because now everything was coming out, at last! I was ready to express myself in spanish. Now I'm trying to do the same with italian and french. Nowadays it's so much easier with the internet.

I have been studying English for almost 3 years every single day and based on this experience fully agree that input is the most important aspect of learning a language. Once you have absorbed a vast amount of vocabulary and audio the output comes naturally. I am more focused on exposing myself to lots of podcasts and reading and trust that the speaking will eventually take care of itself.

3:35 it's like a seed that needs to grow.

Your brain needs time to expand its connections and reinforce your ability to recall a vocabulary word.

Not just exposure is needed but as well one needs sleep cycles to recalibrate these neural connections.

I made the mistake of forcing myself to speak too early in German and I became so stressed that I froze up burned myself out. I stepped back and focused on massive quality input and I am now learning much more much faster. Steve’s advice is the best.
