  I always found Rick&apos;s Story the oddest of the back third of Cerebus. <br><br>You&apos;re seeing this story fall apart, assassinating its core relationships and characters, losing any sense of plot, quickly morphing into a very serious discussion about Christianity that&apos;s baffling centered around Cerebus and Rick... and somehow it&apos;s all so boring. It&apos;s issue after issue of dudes getting drunk at a bar alongside Sim&apos;s favorite celebrities. It&apos;s like I&apos;m stuck at the bar with Sim, watching him rant and rave while getting drunker and drunker and angrier and angrier. <br><br>Whatever the opposite of Cheers is... this is it.

  Honestly, I was never all that impressed by Jaka. She was a decent enough character but there never seemed to be all that much there beyond making her the embodiment of Sim&apos;s frustrated artistry in a disrespected field (comics and dancing). In some ways I accept the later presentation as someone realizing the woman they idolized was, in fact, just as flawed as anyone else... an idea undermined by Sim being weirdly angry about his fantasy girl not living up to the fantasy. <br><br>Ultimately the end of Cerebus ends up being a bunch of utterly worthless men being really upset that women are holding them back when they have no aims or ambitions nor have they ever. Hemingway and Fitzgerald are drunks who found women that enabled their previously well-defined self-destructive impulses.<br><br>Totally not his intention, but Sim put the blame of male unhappiness squarely on the men, but invented a matriarchal society that never existed to pretend it&apos;s all the fault of women... somehow.

  Dave Sim is the epitome of a man unable to handle a breakup. Late Cerebus is a drunken bellow of &quot;I never needed that bitch anyway&quot; in comic book form.

  I had been so intrigued by advertising for Cerebus during the 80s but didn&apos;t start reading until the 90s when I started collecting the phonebooks. I remember telling people how fascinating it was to witness someone having a nervous/mental breakdown through a comic book.

  It&apos;s almost satire until we read Dave rants in his later chapters and fighting in newsletter section that he&apos;s completely serious

  The embodiment of &nbsp;the &quot;LOCK HER UP!!!&quot; crowd in comics. ( sorry, didn&apos;t mean to drag &quot;him&quot; into such a nice topic. It&apos;s just a reminder of co-workers from that era).
