  Greifswald: The Middle Low German <b>grip</b> refers to the griffin and is likely a reference to the heraldic animal of the Dukes of Pomerania - who were later also known as the Griffins - while <b>wolt</b> (or <b>wold*) stands for *Wald</b> (forest). Both the griffin and the forest are also represented in the coat of arms of Greifswald.<br>Greifswald was granted city rights on May 14, 1250. Founded in 1456, the University of Greifswald - with around 10,000 students and approximately 6,000 employees - is the second-oldest university in the Baltic Sea region (after Rostock).

  We had a similar case in my city some years ago. Taking office for the newly elected mayor was delayed by nearly a year because a voter made an objection about an election poster was claimed to be too close to the election room.
